Short-breaks care for children with disabilities:

The all-inclusive allowance (AIA) covers food and activities – carers will be provided with a list of activities and venues where a carer can go free. Children’s parents or carers will be expected to pay for any additional activities they would like their child to participate in or children use pocket money or savings to achieve a goal.

In addition to the 12-hour overnight rates (AIA and skills fee) and hourly daytime rate of £16.82, Foster Carers can claim mileage where a carer has to make specific journeys for the child they look after.

In addition to this, full-time Foster Carers can claim on the child’s behalf:
• Disability Living Allowance, which ranges from £26.90-£101.74 care component per week
• Disability Living Allowance Mobility component, which ranges from £26.90-£71 per week (the higher rate can be exchanged for a car through the Motability scheme)
• If a child is receiving a middle to high care rate of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and foster care exceeds 35 hours per week, carers can apply for Carers Allowance (£76.75 a week)
