Benefits of fostering with WSCC

Becoming a Foster Carer with us means that you’ll be joining West Sussex County Council’s fostering family. Our staff and Foster Carers all work together to provide local children with local foster homes that are safe, loving and supportive and offer the very best standards of care.

Being in care can be a very unsettling and difficult time for children, but by fostering with you Local Authority you will be able to offer them a home in their local area with familiar surroundings. This means that they can often attend the same schools and maintain their existing friendship groups, making their transition and time in care much more manageable.

Our Foster Carers receive a wide range of benefits including:

Competitive pay and allowances

Receive up to £31,338 a year per child, with enhanced rates for some fostering roles. Tax exemptions also apply, with many carers paying little to no tax at all

Comprehensive training

Ensure you have all the knowledge and skills you need, by exploring a wealth of opportunities for ongoing professional development

Professional support

Get your own dedicated Supervising Social Worker, access to out-of-hours assistance, support groups and a peer support programme

Finally, fostering with us means you’ll become an integral part of a not-for-profit fostering service who has the best interests of the children in West Sussex at the heart of everything we do.

Our money goes towards ensuring the children in our care have somewhere safe to call home and supporting our Foster Carers to be able to provide that.
