Maz, George, Ollie, and Marcus’ fostering journey
Foster Carers Maz (and George), shared:
“Ollie and Marcus arrived with us in 2011, aged 6 and 7 (there is only 10 months between them).
Both boys are still with us – Marcus under Shared Lives and Ollie as Staying Put.
For Ollie, my proudest moment was him passing his GCSEs. This was a young man who really struggled with school and was often excluded.
He then went onto college, completed an apprenticeship, passed his driving test at 17 and is now is a fully qualified car mechanic. Ollie also swam at County Level.
Marcus has Autism and a learning disability. He was like an empty shell when he first arrived. He has flourished into an amazing young man. He’s very funny and thoughtful.
He has managed to complete 2 years studying catering at college and is now on his second year of Games Development. He doesn’t travel independently and still requires a lot of support.
He was a para swimmer for some years and won quite a few national titles for his age group.
Both boys were petrified of water when they first arrived and to see them develop and gain that confidence has been a pleasure.”
